Ken Mercer is a Project Manager and Senior Software Engineer from San Antonio, Texas. A conservative Republican elected in 2006 to the Texas State Board of Education, Mercer serves 1.5 million Texans in twelve counties (Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Comal, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Hays, Kendall, Llano, and parts of Bell, Bexar, and Travis).
As a former Texas State Representative, Ken Mercer served as a Member of the State House Committees on Higher Education, Transportation, and Administration. He received several awards and honors as a Member of the State House including:
As an elected Member of the Texas State Board of Education (SBOE), Mercer was chosen to serve on several key positions of leadership:
- Vice-Chair: SBOE Committee on Instruction

Ken Mercer is a recognized Champion of (a) Texas Family values, and (b) raising the bar on education standards. He is a key leader in the conservative fight for:
- Back-to-Basics Math (drill and develop confidence and skills)
- Back-to-Basics instruction to teach the English Language, Phonics, Reading, Spelling, Grammar, Penmanship, Writing, and Research
- World-Class Science Standards for all areas of science — allows Texas students the freedom to raise their hands in class and ask questions about all sides of scientific theories
Ken Mercer earned a Bachelor’s in Biology from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Business Administration from UT-San Antonio. He also holds a Master’s of Business Administration in Finance and Management from St. Mary’s University.
Finally, an Eagle Scout, Ken Mercer was appointed by Governor Rick Perry to the Texas Homeland Security Key Infrastucture Council. He was selected as a member of the Delta Mu Delta Graduate Business Honor Society
